Sweet Bliss Baking Company
The best cinnamon buns in the city can be found here. Light yet buttery, sweet but not cloying, they are made with unbleached flour. You can only buy the buns on weekend mornings, but there’s plenty more to entice: scrumptious apricot-oatmeal-coconut squares, and ginger-lime shortbread. Lemon-ginger cookies and coconut macaroons are plump and chewy. From October to April, the pumpkin-apple pies are sought after—the fruit is bought from a local farm. Sweetened with maple syrup and honey, they have an all-butter crust.

Good reasons to take the 501
Journalists love a good rivalry, so it's little surprise that everyone from The New York Times to Toronto Life has been fingering a Queen East/Queen West showdown for some time. After all, the Eastern Queen possesses enough darling couture (cf. Natalie Roze & Co.), fair-trade espresso (cf. Tango Palace) and high-end bistros (cf. Hello Leslie Jones), not to mention art, to hold her own against other 501 streetcar options. As an added plus, no matter how snowy it gets, the Leslieville attitude is generally sunnier than further westward. Maybe it's that proximity to the Beach, maybe it's the Sweet Bliss cupcakes. Grab a chocolate frosted and hit the streets to find out for yourself.

Leslieville is a hot and trendy neighbourhood. Trendsetters Steven Sabados and Chris Hydman of Steven and Chris on CBC gave Mary a guided tour. In the process she discovered the boys have a bit of a craving for good ol' fashioned cupcakes.

"The perfect cupcakes"

"Two cupcakes making cupcakes," jokes Chris Hyndman.

He and partner Steve Sabados are icing cupcakes at Sweet Bliss Baking Company at 1304 Queen St. E. in Leslieville – a favourite haunt, and a chance to give their decorating skills an unusual workout.

Good thing the bakery is only open Thursday through Sunday, otherwise we'd all be blimpos. Not only are the cupcakes amazing, Sweet Bliss also has great homemade granola and lemon bars.
